Q: is N’iceCream organic?
A: N’iceCream gelatos are made with our a trademarked milk base consisting organic milk, cane sugar, skim milk powder, and guar gum. To the base we add the different ingredients like vanilla beans from Madagascar, cocoa powder from Germany and so on. Most of our ingredients are organic certified in Europe but hasn’t yet been certified in the US which is why we can’t get an organic certification.
Q: if the owners are Danish, why don’t they play that up more? With special Danish flavors, traditional decorating, etc.?
A: Christian and Laura have always had a dream of moving to the US. Christian used to be an exchange student in Seattle and Laura took an internship as a student teacher on the upper west side in NYC, and they both traveled to the US at any given opportunity. So when they moved here to open their very own gelato-shop, it wasn’t to push their Danish roots onto the people in Venice. It was to try the American Dream. Embrace the new and exciting culture and live in a place that quickly felt like home. Sometimes N’iceCream features traditional Danish flavors like Elderberry sorbet or Salted Black Liquorice and during the holidays Laura decorates the Abbot Kinney store with Danish flags, but the vision of N’iceCream is to create a local gelato store.
Q: is N’iceCream really healthier than regular ice cream and/or frozen yogurt?
A: Short answer: Yes. Long answer: N’iceCream is made with milk instead of cream which cuts the higher fat content you find in ice cream down a lot. On average our gelatos have 5-8% fat and approximately 165 calories for a 4oz. scoop.
Our sorbets are made with water, cane sugar and fresh fruit so they only have approximately 67 calorie for a 4oz. cup.
