N’iceCream is more than Nice

In an era when salted desserts have become a little too ubiquitous, N’ice Cream’s salted caramel gelato is one salty sweet not to be missed. Equally delicious are the double chocolate and hazelnut straciatella gelatos, the mango and watermelon sorbets, and pretty much all the other fresh, simple, organic options.

N’ice Cream’s website not only lists the flavors available in each of the three locations (Venice’s Abbot-Kinney; the Venice beach boardwalk; and the Market in Santa Monica Place), it actually reports the time, to the minute, that the most recent batch was made. With summer hours from 7am-11pm (midnight on weekends) and a $1.00 (yep, you read that right!) summer coffee special, N’ice Cream is easily a Venice resident’s first and last stop of the day.

If, like most Angelenos and visitors, you’re not within walking distance of N’ice Cream, any of the three locations are worth a day trip. Abbot-Kinney is Venice’s ultra-hip district for shopping, eating, and architecture-gazing; the Venice boardwalk is…well let’s just say it’s not to be missed; and the newly renovated Santa Monica Place and adjacent 3rd Street promenade are packed with family entertainment options, from surprisingly talented street performers to dinosaur-shaped fountains. All three neighborhoods are best experienced while strolling with a great ice cream cone.

N’ice Cream was founded by Laura Nielsen and Christian Toxboe, who report having moved from Denmark with the sole purpose of opening up a gelato and sorbet store in LA. Their laser-like focus worked: N’ice Cream is as good as it gets.
